When did splitting the bill at dinner become so complicated?

I went out with a few younger friends and they spent ten minutes with their phone calculators. They sent me a Venmo request for my exact share down to the cent.

Honestly, it just felt so cold. It used to be you'd just split it evenly and it all came out in the wash. Someone might pay a couple dollars more this time, you'd get them next time. But they were calculating tax and tip on their individual items. It took forever and just sucked the fun out of a nice meal. I miss when going out with friends didn't feel like a business transaction.
