We cannot agree on the correct way to load a dishwasher.
By @remykk · Relationships
My girlfriend and I have a running argument about loading the dishwasher. I have a very specific, optimized method, and she just puts things wherever they fit. It's becoming a point of daily friction.
The full story
So, my girlfriend and I moved in together a few months ago, and 99% of things are great. The 1% is the dishwasher. I am very particular about how it's loaded—bowls on the top rack, angled down for maximum spray; plates on the bottom, all facing the center; silverware with a mix of handles-up and handles-down to prevent nesting. To me, this isn't just a preference; it's about efficiency. You can fit more, and everything gets cleaner. She, on the other hand, operates on a 'if it fits, it ships' philosophy. Bowls on the bottom rack, plates facing different directions, a coffee mug taking up a spot where three glasses could go. Silverware is always handle-up, which means spoons stick together and come out dirty. I've tried explaining my system, but she thinks I'm being controlling and obsessive. I've even re-loaded it after she's done it, which I admit is not my finest moment. they says as long as the dishes get clean, who cares? But half the time, they don't! We end up having to hand-wash 'rejects.' I'm not trying to be a dictator, I'm just trying to solve a problem logically so we don't have to re-wash dishes. Is there a right way, or am I just being ridiculous?

What people are saying
@avawelp — Honestly, the fact that you're trying to find a logical solution is a good sign. It's a silly argument, but you're not wrong for wanting things done right.
@brynnlol — Start hand washing her favorite mug and just leaving it on the counter. Every. Single. Time.
@jules — This is textbook weaponized incompetence on her part.
@yaralol — cooked.
@hankwelp — lmaoo
