The most embarrassing thing just happened at my own birthday dinner.

We were at this nice restaurant my sister picked, and when the bill came, she announced she was only paying for her meal. Everyone else had to figure out how to cover my plate.

So for my birthday, my sister says she wants to take me out to this new Italian place I've been wanting to try. She makes the reservation, invites a couple of my close friends, the whole thing. We have a great time, order a bunch of stuff, and then the check comes. She grabs it, looks it over, and then slides it to my friend and says, 'Okay, I put $40 on my card for my pasta and wine. You guys can figure out the rest, including the birthday girl's meal!' The table got so quiet. It was mortifying. My friends just stared, and then had to awkwardly pull out their phones to Venmo each other to cover my $50 plate on my own birthday.
