A guest at my small party used Shazam on my playlist.

I hosted a small get-together and spent a lot of time making a specific playlist to set a vibe. A friend of a friend I didn't know very well kept pulling out his phone to Shazam the songs, and it felt weirdly invasive.

I'm probably overthinking this, but it felt so awkward. I hosted a small dinner party for maybe 8 people last weekend. I'm pretty introverted so I don't host often, but when I do, I put a lot of thought into the little things, especially the music. I see it as part of creating the whole atmosphere for the evening. This guy, who was the plus-one of a friend, was nice enough, but about an hour in, I noticed he was repeatedly pulling his phone out. At first I thought he was just bored and texting, but then I saw the Shazam app open on his screen. He did it for at least four or five different songs over the course of the night. It just felt... transactional? Like he was harvesting my playlist instead of just enjoying the party and the music as part of the experience. It's not like the playlist is a secret, and if he had asked 'Hey, who sings this?' I would have happily told him. But the silent, repeated tech usage for it just felt impersonal and kind of rude, like I was a DJ he was sampling from. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to make it a thing, but it bugged me for the rest of the night.
