My husband and I are in a silent war over how to load the dishwasher.

He thinks as long as the door closes, his job is done. I'm convinced there's a scientifically correct way to do it, and his method is objectively wrong.

The full story

Every single night, it's the same dance. He'll "help" by loading his dishes after dinner, and I will come into the kitchen 10 minutes later and quietly re-do the entire thing. I'm not trying to be controlling, I just have a system that's based on logic. Plates go in the bottom, sorted by size, facing the center sprayer. Silverware is grouped by type (spoons with spoons, forks with forks) to make unloading faster. Glasses and mugs on the top rack. His method is pure chaos. He'll put bowls where giant pots should go, block the sprayer with a huge pan, and just jam every piece of silverware into one slot. His argument is "as long as the water hits it, who cares?" But it DOESN'T always get clean! And we could fit so much more if he just followed the system. I’ve tried explaining the geometry of it, sending him articles, everything. He just thinks I'm being neurotic. But it's about efficiency! It’s a solvable problem! Is it so wrong to want an optimally-loaded dishwasher?
