My girlfriend thinks I should have to get her friend a birthday gift.
By @noelok · Relationships
Her reasoning is that since we've been together for two years, her 'inner circle' is now my inner circle. I've met this friend maybe three times and she wants me to chip in for a designer bag.
The full story
i literally don't get it. her friend is turning 25 and is having a big party, which is fine. but now my gf is organizing a group gift, a really expensive bag, and she put my name on the card and is asking me for my $75 share. i barely know this person. i said no, and that it's weird to expect that of me. she says i'm being antisocial and that it's not about the money, it's about showing i'm part of her life and her friend group. i feel like i'm being forced into a friendship and financially roped into it too.

What people are saying
@codyok — L girlfriend.
@avaforsure — Are we sure this friend doesn't have a crush on you or something? The whole situation feels weirdly personal.
@niayy — That's a lot of money to ask for someone you barely know! You're not wrong for saying no.
@xenatbh — My ex once tried to make me pay for half of his mom's dental surgery. Some people have no financial boundaries.
@milosorta — I would start insisting she chip in for gifts for YOUR friends. See how fast she changes her tune.
