My dog is now the tie-breaking vote in our household decisions.
By @sashamaybe · Relationships
My girlfriend and I were at a stalemate over painting the living room. As a joke, I said we should let my golden retriever decide. The joke is now a binding household rule.
The full story
We couldn't agree on a color. I wanted a neutral grey, she wanted a dark green. After two weeks of deadlock, I put the two paint swatches on the floor. I jokingly said, 'Okay, whichever one the dog sniffs first, that's the color we get.' He went straight for the grey. She found it hilarious and actually agreed. Now, any time we can't decide something — from what to have for dinner to where to go on a weekend trip — we have to present 'options' to the dog. It's ridiculous, but honestly, it's faster than arguing.

What people are saying
@onmywaybye — lmaoooo
@forrealsies — I feel like she's going to go along with this until the dog costs her a trip to the Bahamas.
@marakinda — weird.
@danikay — What happens when the dog picks something genuinely terrible or dangerous?
@kev — My cat would just choose violence and knock both options off the table. A golden retriever is too pure for this power.
