My boyfriend used our joint vacation savings to buy a 'rare' Funko Pop.

We've been saving for over a year for a trip to Japan. Yesterday, I checked the account and saw it was nearly empty. He spent $4,000 on a collectible figure he claims is a 'good investment.'.

The full story

For the past 18 months, we've been putting aside money into a joint high-yield savings account. The explicit goal was a three-week trip to Japan next spring. We both contributed, though I've put in slightly more since I got a raise last year. We had about $4,500 in there. We've been planning the itinerary, looking at flights, everything. Yesterday, I logged in to check the balance and it was at $521. I honestly thought it was a bank error or we'd been hacked. I called my boyfriend (31) immediately, panicking. He was weirdly calm and said, 'oh, yeah, I've been meaning to tell you.' He then explained that a 'grail' from his favorite comic book series came up for sale online. It's a limited edition, signed Funko Pop, and he said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He spent $4,000 of our savings on it. His logic is that this isn't 'spending' money, it's 'transferring' it into an asset that will appreciate in value. they says a vacation is just a temporary experience that you have nothing to show for afterward, whereas this collectible could be worth double what he paid in a few years. He legitimately does not understand why I'm devastated. I feel so disrespected. That wasn't his money to decide what to 'invest' in. It was *our* money for a *shared* goal. Now the trip is obviously off the table. He keeps saying he'll pay it back 'when the investment matures,' but that could be years. What do I even do here? Am I supposed to demand he sells it? I feel like I can't trust him with money or our future plans at all.
