My boyfriend thinks it's a 'compliment' to rate my friends.

By @sashasorta · Relationships

He does this thing where he'll literally give my friends a number rating out of 10. I've told him to stop, but he claims it's just a joke and that it's a compliment when he rates them high. It makes me super uncomfortable.

so my (20f) boyfriend (21m) and i have been together for about a year. he's generally great but he has this one weird habit that is really starting to get to me. whenever we hang out with my friends, he'll pull me aside later and be like 'your friend is a solid 8.5' or 'she's a 7 but could be a 9 if she did her hair differently'. i've asked him to stop multiple times. i told him it's objectifying and weird and makes me feel gross. he just laughs it off and says he's 'just appreciating beauty' and that i should be happy he thinks my friends are pretty. he literally called it 'the lineup'. last night was the breaking point. we were at a small get-together and on the way home he said my best friend was 'definitely a 9.5, almost a 10'. i got really quiet and he could tell i was mad. he was like 'what? it's a huge compliment! that means you have good taste in friends'. i told him it's disrespectful and i don't want him ranking the people in my life like they're in a video game, but he thinks i'm being overly sensitive and can't take a joke. now it's super awkward.
