My boyfriend's texts started getting weirdly formal and polite.

For a few days, his good morning texts turned into things like 'Good morning. I hope you have a productive day.' I was getting worried he was pulling away or that I'd done something to upset him.

The full story

My bf (28M) and I (27F) have been together for about three years, and our texting style is super casual. Lots of memes, typos, dumb inside jokes. Last week, he suddenly switched it up. It started with 'Good morning, I hope you have a pleasant day,' which is already weird for him. Then it was 'How was your afternoon?' and using full punctuation in every message. I immediately went into panic mode. I was scrolling through our recent conversations trying to figure out what I did wrong. I thought maybe he was mad about something small and being passive-aggressive, or worse, that he was trying to create distance to break up with me. I was getting ready for a whole serious conversation about our relationship. After two full days of this, I finally just asked him what was going on. He was completely confused at first, then he started laughing. they told me his little sister (16F) had been teasing him about how he 'types like a boomer' and he was trying to use more 'proper' grammar to prove her wrong. The relief I felt was immediate. It was such a goofy, innocent reason, and honestly, seeing him be a dorky older brother was kind of adorable. It's a nice reminder that not everything that feels like a red flag actually is one.
