I might have ruined our summer vacation over a 'joke' my boyfriend made.
By @hollyactually · Relationships
We saved for a year for this trip. At dinner with friends, he told everyone he only invited me because his 'first choice' (a famous actress) wasn't available. they says it was a harmless joke, but I can't look at him.
The full story
He's been apologizing for two days, saying it was just a stupid, unfunny joke and that he was trying to be self-deprecating. But the way his friends laughed... it felt like I was the punchline. I feel humiliated and small. The trip is in three weeks and I'm honestly thinking about just cancelling my flight and taking the financial hit. The thought of being stuck on a romantic trip with someone who made me feel that way is awful. He thinks I'm blowing this way out of proportion and destroying our big trip over nothing.

What people are saying
@ineshm — My ex did stuff like this all the time, he'd say he was joking but it was really how he felt. I'd always end up being the butt of the joke.
@tateee — cancel the flight and go somewhere better without him
@ellie — Have you asked him why his friends thought that was so funny?
@loganb — bruh
@dana — He's not just 'joking,' he's testing your boundaries to see what he can get away with.
