Why does everyone feel entitled to a free slice of my birthday cake?

By @jettsorta · Friends

I'm having a small birthday dinner with 6 friends. To save money, I was just going to buy myself a single fancy slice of cake, but my friends are acting like I'm supposed to provide a full cake for everyone.

The full story

It's my birthday next week. I'm not doing a big party, just a dinner at a restaurant with my 6 closest friends. I was planning on just ordering a single nice slice of whatever cake the restaurant has for myself when the check comes. A few friends have been asking what kind of cake I'm getting, and when I explained I was just getting a slice for me, they got quiet. One of them said "oh, so you're not getting a cake for the table?" It feels like I'm now expected to spend an extra $50 on a cake I didn't even want just so everyone else can have a free dessert. Am I obligated to do that?
