Our friend group chat now has a 'no memes' during work hours rule.

By @gushm · Friends

One of our friends complained that the group chat was too distracting during the day and proposed a 'no memes' rule from 9-5, Monday to Friday. Now half the group is for it and the other half thinks it's ridiculous.

The full story

I'm in a group chat with my seven closest friends, and it's usually popping off all day. Someone got a new job that's apparently a lot more strict, and they sent a whole paragraph about how they're trying to be more 'productive' and the memes are 'derailing their focus.' They actually suggested we limit non-urgent chatter and memes to after 5pm. A few people immediately agreed, which is baffling to me. It's a group chat. You can mute it! I think it's insane to try and police a chat between friends, but now I'm being told I'm the one not being supportive. We're really going to schedule our friendship now? It's absurd.
