Why do people think it's okay to bring a random plus-one to a pregame?

By @quinnok · Friends

My roommate's friend brought some guy we've never met to our apartment before we went out. Our place is tiny and it was supposed to just be our close group.

The full story

it was so awkward. we only had enough drinks and stuff for the 8 people we actually invited, not 'random dude who is double-fisting our expensive tequila'. he kept trying to take over the aux cord to play his soundcloud mixes and it totally killed the vibe. i eventually pulled my roommate aside and was like 'hey what's the deal' and she said her friend didn't want to come alone. okay, but this isn't a public bar? it's our apartment. now my roommate is mad at me because i was 'visibly annoyed' and made her friend feel weird. ngl, i was annoyed. am i supposed to just host anyone who shows up at my door? it's an unwritten rule, you ask before you bring a stranger into someone's home. this isn't a frat party.
