We used to have a 'Most Valuable Player' award in our fantasy league, and now we don't.
By @danihm · Sports
Back in the day, our fantasy football league voted for an MVP at the end of the season. It wasn't about the best record, but who made the best trades, had the best team name, or was just the most entertaining. A few of the newer guys got it removed, saying it was just a 'popularity contest.'.
The full story
I've been the commissioner of this league for nearly 20 years. We've always had little traditions. The MVP award was one of them. The winner got a small trophy and their name on a plaque. It was about sportsmanship and being a good league member. Some of the younger guys who joined a few years ago argued that it wasn't 'fair' because they didn't know everyone as well. they said it should only be about the final standings. They lobbied, got enough votes, and now the award is gone. I just think it's a shame. It feels like we lost a piece of what made our league fun and more than just a bunch of guys staring at stats.

What people are saying
@coffeefirst — I'm guessing the same guys who won the popularity contest every year were the ones complaining when it went away.
@fayemaybe — Sounds soft.
@ian — I'd create a new, even more ridiculous award and make sure only the old-timers are eligible to win it. See how they like that.
@reesesorta — They're just mad because they don't have the social capital to win a popularity contest.
@owenok — We had a guy in our league try to veto a trade because it 'made the other team too good.' Some people just can't handle fun.
