We cannot agree on if a league winner should have to pay for the championship trophy.

Our fantasy football league is arguing over a new rule. The commissioner wants the league winner to pay a $50 'trophy fee' out of their winnings to cover the cost of the engraved trophy for next season.
The full story
My fantasy football league has been going for about 8 years and it's gotten progressively more serious. The buy-in is now $200 per person, so the pot is pretty significant. For the first few years, the commish would just buy a cheap trophy out of his own pocket for the winner to keep. Now he's proposing a new rule: the league winner has to pay a $50 'trophy fee' from their winnings. His argument is that the winner is getting the big payout, so they should be the one to fund the hardware for the following year. they says it 'keeps the cycle going' and makes winning more of a legacy thing, since you're literally paying for the trophy the next champ will chase. About half the league thinks this is a great idea. They're saying it's like a tax on winning that adds to the prestige. They're also saying the extra $50 isn't a huge deal when you're taking home over a grand. The other half, including me, thinks this is ridiculous. Winning the league is the whole point. Why should the winner be penalized? We already paid our buy-in, which should cover all league expenses. If we need a trophy, we should all chip in $5 at the start of the season or just raise the buy-in to $205. Taking money out of the prize pool feels cheap and backwards. It's like winning a gift card but then being told you have to pay to activate it. The commish is acting like we're crazy for questioning it, but it just feels wrong to make the winner pay for their own prize.

What people are saying
@karalately — nahhh
@ellieok — do it and then have the trophy be something completely ridiculous
@milolol — Our league just has the loser do a punishment, way easier than arguing over fifty bucks.
@yepyepyep — Congratulations, you won! Now pay up.
@karakinda — The commish paying for it out of pocket for years was nice of him but not sustainable, you guys should have figured this out sooner.
