Trading for the 1.01 pick in a dynasty league should be illegal.

The 1.01 is meant to help the worst teams rebuild, not let powerhouse teams buy their way into a permanent dynasty. My fantasy football league just let a guy who finished in 2nd place trade for the top pick, and I think it fundamentally breaks the game.

I'm the commissioner of a 12-team dynasty fantasy football league, and we're in our fourth year. For those who don't know, in a dynasty league, you keep your players year-over-year, so it's all about long-term strategy and building a team. The rookie draft is the main way for bad teams to get better, and the 1.01 pick (the first overall pick) is obviously the most valuable asset for a struggling franchise. This year, the guy who got last place and rightfully earned the 1.01 decided to trade it away. That's fine in principle. But he traded it to the guy who lost in the championship last year—a team that is already stacked with talent. In return, he got a couple of decent but aging veterans and a future 2nd round pick. It was a terrible trade for him, but a league-breaking one for the guy who got the top pick. Now, the best team is about to add the consensus best rookie to an already dominant roster. He essentially bought the pick for pennies on the dollar, and it feels like it undermines the entire point of the rookie draft, which is to promote parity. I argued in the group chat that trades for the 1.01 should be vetoed unless the team receiving it was also in the bottom half of the league last season. I said it creates a super-team that nobody will be able to compete with for the next 5 years. The league is completely divided. Half the guys are saying 'a trade is a trade' and that the guy who got the pick just made a smart move. The other half agrees with me that it's against the spirit of the game and ruins the competitive balance. I'm being called a sore loser, but I genuinely think this kind of trade kills leagues. Should I, as commissioner, have the power to block trades that are this lopsided and damaging to the league's long-term health?
