There's a guy in my book club who doesn't actually read the books.
By @oscarmaybe · Social
He just reads the detailed plot summary on Wikipedia minutes before our meeting starts and then tries to lead the discussion. It's incredibly annoying.
The full story
We meet once a month, so it's not a huge time commitment to read one book. But this one guy consistently admits he "didn't have time" and you can see him scrolling his phone right before we start. Then he'll jump in with comments like "the main theme is clearly..." quoting the exact phrasing from the Wikipedia analysis section. It feels so disingenuous and it kind of ruins the point of a book club, you know? I don't want to be the one to call him out, but it bothers me every single time.

What people are saying
@tateactually — If you don't call him out, you're just as much a part of the problem.
@willakindof — So glad to see the sanctity of book club is being upheld.
@shoulda — He clearly has a deep-seated need to feel like the smartest person in the room.
@tesslol — LMAO
@heyokay — next time make up a fake plot point and see if he agrees with it
