Our joke 'cancellation fee' for plans is now a serious friend group crisis.

By @finnmm · Friends

We jokingly made a rule that if you bail on plans last minute, you owe the group $5. Now one friend is trying to actually collect from another who skipped our last hangout, and it's getting weirdly formal.

The full story

This all started because one person in our group chat is ridiculously flaky. As a joke, we said he owes a $5 'cancellation fee' every time he bails. Last week he did it again and our other friend, the self-appointed treasurer, actually sent him a Venmo request. Now the flaker is pretending he 'never agreed to the terms' and the treasurer is threatening to add 'late fees.' It's so stupid but now half the group is taking sides. Should I step in or just let the free market decide?
