Our HOA has a rule against 'unapproved' holiday lights.

By @ellieagain · Drama

Apparently my daughter's rainbow-colored string lights for her back-to-school party count as 'unapproved' because they aren't for a recognized holiday. I got a written warning in the mail yesterday.

The full story

I just don't have the energy for this. My daughter (she's 9) wanted to have a little 'end of summer' party with her friends before school starts. We decorated the back patio with some fun rainbow-colored string lights. They're not even that bright! But apparently one of our neighbors complained, and the HOA sent us a formal warning letter about displaying lights for a 'non-sanctioned holiday.' I feel like I'm living in a parody. My husband thinks I should just take them down to keep the peace, but part of me wants to leave them up out of principle. It just feels so petty and controlling.
