My roommate's boyfriend basically lives here rent-free and eats all our food.

By @finnforsure · Drama

My (23F) roommate's (24F) boyfriend (25M) is at our apartment 24/7. He doesn't pay for anything, eats food that I buy, and uses our utilities, and I'm getting really tired of it.

The full story

so for context i live in a 2br apartment with my roommate. we split rent, utilities, and we used to split groceries but i stopped that. her boyfriend has been staying over basically every single night for the past four months. like, he is here when i leave for work and he is here when i get home. he has his own place but i don't think he's been there in weeks. he showers here, does his laundry here, and the worst part is he eats MY food. not our shared food, but the specific expensive snacks and ingredients i buy for myself. i'll buy a nice pint of ice cream and the next day it's gone. i bought some fancy cheese for a recipe and he used it all to make a grilled cheese. i tried talking to her about it. i said hey, it's fine if he stays over sometimes but this feels like we have a third roommate who doesn't pay for anything. she got super defensive and said i was making her feel uncomfortable in her own home. she said he's her guest and i need to be more welcoming. i don't think it's about being welcoming. my utility bill has gone up like $40 a month and my grocery bill has skyrocketed because i keep having to replace things he eats. am i crazy for thinking he should either stop being here all the time or start contributing to the bills? it's getting so awkward and i feel like i'm the bad guy but also this is my space too.
