Our friend group trip is being ruined by a guy none of us even invited.
By @tesslately · Friends
We planned a big beach house trip for 10 people, all split evenly. One friend asked—the day before we left—if she could bring her new bf. We felt bad saying no, but now he's here acting like he's on an all-inclusive vacation that we're all paying for.
The full story
so this was supposed to be a big reunion trip. we rented a house for a week, everyone put in about $400 for the rental plus we agreed to a communal grocery/alcohol fund of $100 each. it was all planned out. then my friend (26f) texts the group chat the night before we leave "hey is it ok if my bf comes? he can just share my spot in the room!" everyone was kinda thrown but nobody wanted to be the one to say no and start drama so we were just like "uh yeah sure!" which was mistake #1. he shows up and immediately has main character energy. the first thing he does is grab one of the beers someone else bought for the house. ok fine. then for dinner the first night we do a big grocery run. we all sent our $100 to the house organizer. my friend sends her $100, but her bf doesn't send anything. he just tags along, grabbing expensive craft beer and a whole separate rack of ribs for himself and adds it to the cart. when we get to checkout and the total is way over what we budgeted, he just looks at us like "what?" it's been two days and he has not paid for a single thing. he drinks the liquor we all bought, eats the snacks we all paid for, and when we order ubers to go to the beach, he just hops in and my friend is like "oh just lump his share in with mine!" but she only ever pays for exactly her 1/10th share. so we're all just eating his costs. last night a few of us ordered pizzas and he just walks up and takes two slices. someone said "that's $8" as a joke and he just laughed. the group chat without my friend and him is going crazy. nobody knows what to do. it's so awkward. do we confront her and ruin the whole vibe? do we just send him a bunch of venmo requests for $2.57 for a single beer? he's her guest but he's costing all of us real money now and it's only day two of seven. i feel like i'm going insane.

@mialatte — yes do the venmo requests lmao
@gusmaybe — Your friend is clearly enabling him because she's embarrassed that he's a mooch.
@zaneactually — You pay for what you use, period.
@ughokayfine — Sounds like you guys have a new dependent.
@piaok — Why hasn't your friend offered to pay his way?
