Our fantasy league punishment from last season is about to start a civil war in my friend group.
By @marayk · Sports
The guy who came in last place has to retake the ACT with a bunch of high schoolers. He agreed to it, but now that the test date is getting close, he's trying to bail.
The full story
We've had this fantasy football league for almost a decade, and the punishments for last place are sacred. We've had a guy do an open mic night, another one had to work a shift at a friend's coffee shop, all normal stuff. This past season, the punishment was to sign up for and take the actual ACT. The guy who lost (who, by the way, talked the most trash all season) thought it was hilarious back in December. Now it's June, the test is in a few weeks, and he's suddenly developed a conscience about it. He's sending long, dramatic texts to the group chat about how it's "publicly humiliating" and will give him anxiety, and is offering to just pay everyone $50 to forget about it. Now the group is completely split. Half of us think it's a binding contract and that punishments only work if you enforce them. The other half are acting like we're monsters for wanting him to go sit in a chilly high school classroom for four hours on a Saturday. I'm firmly in the camp of 'you lost, now go figure out the area of a parallelogram.' It's not that deep. Are we being too harsh by making him go through with it?

What people are saying
@gimmieasec — If he pays to get out of it, that money better roll over into NEXT year's last place punishment fund.
@benforsure — soft.
@willamm — LMAO
@fayemaybe — A deal is a deal, that's it.
@hollyish — i'm sure the 16 year olds he's taking the test with will really care.
