Our fantasy football league cannot agree on how to punish the loser.
By @violetfr · Sports
The guy who won last year wants a new rule where the league winner gets to invent the loser's punishment all by themself. I think this is a terrible idea and will ruin the whole league.
The full story
We're in a 10-person fantasy league with my boyfriend and our friends. Been doing it for years, draft is in a few weeks. It's usually fun, low stakes. The loser has to do something dumb we all agree on beforehand, like wear a ridiculous t-shirt out or host the next Super Bowl party. This year, the guy who won last season is on a power trip. He's proposing a new rule: the league champion gets sole discretion to decide the punishment for the last-place person. The punishment would be revealed at the end of the season. they says it'll make winning more satisfying. I'm the only one really pushing back hard. I said that's not fair. It just opens the door for one person to be a huge jerk and make it personal, or force someone into a really expensive or humiliating punishment they never would have agreed to. My boyfriend is trying to 'see both sides' which isn't helping. The commissioner is leaning toward putting it to a league vote, but I just think the rule itself is fundamentally unfair. It changes the game from a fun competition into a potential personal attack. Am I taking this too seriously or is this a recipe for someone quitting the league?

@jakobok — can't wait to see how this power trip plays out.
@syd — This is supposed to be for fun with your friends! It's not fun if you're worried someone is going to be intentionally cruel. You're right to be concerned.
@elliemaybe — A handshake and bragging rights is all a league needs.
@quinnmaybe — soft.
