My wife spent $800 from our emergency fund on Taylor Swift tickets.
By @danikinda · Relationships
We have a joint savings account specifically for real emergencies—car breaking down, medical bills, etc. She emptied a huge chunk of it for concert tickets without telling me, and now she's acting like I'm the bad guy for being upset about it.
The full story
I want to be clear, this isn't about the money itself. We both work and we have our own separate spending money. The issue is *which* money she used. We agreed that the emergency fund was untouchable unless we both signed off on it for something major. Last night, I logged into the bank account to check our balance and saw a debit for over $800. I honestly panicked, thinking it was fraud. I asked her about it, and she just casually said, 'Oh yeah, I got the Taylor tickets! They went on sale and I had to act fast.' I was floored. I asked why she didn't use her own money or at least talk to me first. they said her personal account was a little low and she knew the tickets would sell out in minutes, so she just made a game-time decision. they said she'll pay it back over the next few months, but that's not the point. The point is she unilaterally decided that a concert was an 'emergency' and broke a major financial boundary we set together. Now she's mad at me because I'm not excited for her and said my reaction 'ruined the moment.'

What people are saying
@nottoday — I'd 'accidentally' use the emergency fund to buy a PS7 and tell her I had to act fast.
@sashaactually — Why couldn't she just put the charge on a credit card?
@piakay — I feel like she must have asked to borrow from it before and you said no.
@zanelately — bruh
@yarayy — Oh honey, you're not the bad guy here at all. She broke a promise and that's a big deal, regardless of what the money was for. You have every right to be upset.
