Calling your girlfriend's cooking 'mid' isn't constructive criticism, it's just rude.

My boyfriend (29M) said this to me (27F) last night after I spent a couple hours making a new recipe. He thinks it's no big deal and that I'm being too sensitive.

The full story

I'm not a chef, but I enjoy cooking and trying new things. It's a creative outlet for me. Last night I decided to make this somewhat complicated Thai green curry I saw online. It took a while to find all the ingredients and the actual cooking process was like, almost two hours with all the prep. I was really proud of how it came out and excited for him to try it. He took a few bites and was quiet, and when I asked him what he thought, he just shrugged and said, 'Eh, it's mid.' I was honestly stunned. It wasn't like he said it was bad, but 'mid' just felt so dismissive and like, Gen Z internet-speak for 'I'm not impressed.' It really hurt my feelings. I told him that was a really rude and ungrateful thing to say after I'd put in so much effort. His defense is that I asked for his opinion and he gave it. they says he's just being honest and that I'm overreacting, and that 'constructive criticism' is how people get better at things. I told him that if he wanted to give 'constructive criticism' he could say something like, 'It's good, but maybe a little more spice next time?' not just drop a one-word insult. He thinks I'm being ridiculous and that it's just a word. Now I don't even want to cook for him anymore. I'm not sure if I'm just being overly sensitive or if he's genuinely being a jerk. What would you even do in this situation?
