She wasn't even subtle. We’d be in the middle of a conversation, she'd compliment the rug, and then I'd see her phone screen with a search for its price. My wife says I should let it go, but I found it incredibly rude.

I'm probably showing my age here, but this whole experience felt so bizarre to me. We had my wife's college friend over for dinner this past weekend, someone she hasn't seen in a couple of years. The whole evening, she was just... price-checking our apartment. I'm not kidding. She’d compliment our new floor lamp, and then two seconds later I'd see her thumb-typing on her phone, and I could just tell she was looking it up online. She did it with our dining chairs, a painting we have in the entry way, even my espresso machine. At first my wife and I were just exchanging uncomfortable looks, but then it got so blatant she wasn't even hiding her screen. It made the whole night feel less like catching up with an old friend and more like we were being appraised for an estate sale. My wife thinks it's just a weird quirk and I should ignore it, but it felt incredibly rude and frankly, like a huge red flag about her character. Who does that in someone's home?
