My roommate's obsession with the 2000s is starting to get on my nerves.

It started with her buying low-rise jeans and a flip phone, which was kinda funny. Now she's threatening to unplug the wifi this weekend so we can have an 'authentic dial-up experience' and I'm about to lose it.

my roommate is 19 and is deep in her Y2K fashion phase. at first it was fine, kinda funny even. she got the low-rise jeans, the tiny shoulder bags, the frosted lip gloss. she even bought an actual flip phone, which was a nightmare for our group chat but whatever, i let her live. but it's escalating. she's started talking in AIM lingo, like saying 'brb' out loud before going to the bathroom. she bought one of those giant, beige desktop computers from a thrift store and has it on her desk. says she's 'all about the aesthetic'. the latest thing is her grand plan to make us live an 'authentic 2000s weekend'. she wants to unplug the wifi router from friday to sunday. her argument is that we should 'disconnect' and experience the world how i did when i was her age. she wants to burn CDs, watch dvds, and 'see what it was like to be bored'. i tried to explain to her that the 'authentic experience' was mostly just frustration. it was waiting 20 minutes for a song to download on limewire just for it to be a virus. it was your mom yelling at you to get off the internet so she could use the phone. it was typing with T9 on a tiny little screen. it wasn't fun, it was just all we had. i have actual college assignments to do this weekend, all of which are online. she's calling me a buzzkill. i'm calling her delusional. ngl i'm this close to writing a dramatic AIM away message about her.
