Dating apps and social media have made it so everyone is expected to be available 24/7. I miss when logging off AIM meant you were just gone for the night, no explanation needed.

now if you don't answer a text for an hour people assume you've ghosted them or you're dead. there was a simple beauty in setting an away message like ~*~don't bother~*~ and just not existing on the internet for a while. it was healthier i think. you could just be a screen name and then go back to your real life. now every online interaction feels like it's tied to your permanent record lol.
