Okay so I need to tell someone about this because it's reached a new level of absurdity. I live in a pretty standard suburban neighborhood. My next-door neighbor is a guy in his 60s who treats his lawn like it's the 18th hole at Augusta. I'm more of a 'mow it when it looks a little shaggy' kind of person. It started small. Two weeks ago, I found a single, neatly plucked dandelion sitting on my front doormat. No note, just the dandelion. I laughed it off. A week later, after I mowed, I noticed he came out and re-mowed a perfect, razor-thin strip right along our property line, as if my mower couldn't possibly be trusted to cut it correctly. But this morning took the cake. Get this: I go out to get my mail, and tucked inside my mailbox is a laminated copy of the HOA bylaws. Not the whole thing, just the single page about lawn and landscape maintenance, with the section on 'noxious weeds' highlighted in bright yellow. LAMINATED. Who takes the time to LAMINATE a passive-aggressive note? So now I feel like I have to respond. I'm not mad, I'm just… bewildered. My first thought was to just ignore it, but now I feel like this is a game, and I have to make a move. My best friend says I should buy a whole army of plastic lawn flamingos and set them up overnight. Another friend said I should print and laminate the HOA rule about not disturbing a neighbor's mail. I'm torn between being petty and being the bigger person, but being petty sounds way more fun. What's the most creative, non-confrontational way to handle this? I need ideas.
