My mother-in-law sold my wedding dress on Facebook Marketplace while we were on our honeymoon.

We just got back from our honeymoon two days ago. I went to put my dress in storage, and it was gone. My husband called his mom, and she admitted she sold it for $250 because she thought I'd 'never use it again' and wanted to 'recoup some of the wedding costs.'.

The full story

I'm just in shock. My husband and I got married three weeks ago and it was perfect. We left for our honeymoon the next day. We got back on Thursday. This afternoon, I went into the spare room to get my dress, which I had hanging in a garment bag, to take it to a preservation service. It wasn't there. I looked everywhere, tore the closet apart. I started to panic, thinking maybe someone broke in, but nothing else was missing. My husband saw how upset I was and had a weird look on his face. they said 'I'm just gonna try something' and called his mom. And then he just puts it on speaker. He asks her if she's been in our apartment while we were gone. they says of course, she was just 'checking on things.' He asks her if she moved my wedding dress. And then, so casually, she says 'Oh, that? I sold it! Some girl from town bought it, she was so happy.' I literally started seeing stars. they said she saw it hanging there and figured I was done with it, and since she and my father-in-law had helped pay for a lot of the wedding, she felt it was fair to sell it to get some of their money back. She got $250 for a $4,000 dress. My husband is furious with her, but he's also trying to get me to calm down, saying 'we can't change it now.' But she came into our home and sold my property without asking. I don't know if I can ever speak to her again.
