My friends have started a 'late tax' for being late to plans.

By @ellieliterally · Friends

We have a group chat for making plans and one person suggested we start 'billing' people who are chronically late. It's $5 for every 10 minutes you're late, payable to whoever was on time. I think it's ridiculous.

The full story

Look, I can be a little late sometimes, but who isn't? Life happens. But now they've made it official. We were supposed to meet for dinner last night and I was maybe 15 minutes late, and my friend seriously Venmo requested me $10 when I sat down. they said I was '15 minutes into the next 10-minute block.' I refused to pay it, and now the group chat is a war zone. Half of them are saying I'm being disrespectful of their time, the other half are saying this whole 'late tax' thing is insane and makes hanging out feel like a transaction. I'm just trying to have dinner, not get fined.
