My fantasy league punishment is about to cross a serious line.

Our fantasy football league has a standing punishment for last place: a tattoo designed by the winner. We all agreed to it, thinking it was a funny hypothetical. Well, I lost. And the winner is my ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

The full story

When we first made the rule a few years ago, it was hilarious. The designs were always dumb inside jokes, like a cartoon hot dog or something. It was all in good fun. But this year feels different. I came in last place. The guy who won our league started dating my ex of three years about six months ago. Their relationship has been all over social media, and honestly, it's been tough to watch. He's not a bad guy, we were friendly before all this, but the situation is just deeply awkward. He revealed the tattoo design last night. It's my ex's initials, in the same font as a tattoo she has. He thinks it's the funniest thing in the world. they said, 'now you'll never forget her!' The whole league is laughing, saying 'a bet's a bet' and that I have to go through with it. They're saying if I back out, I'm kicked out of the league for good and that I'm a sore loser. This feels like it's way beyond a simple joke. It's not about football anymore; it feels personal and humiliating. It's one thing to get a stupid, meaningless tattoo. It's another thing to have a permanent reminder of my ex, chosen by the guy who is now with her, inked on my body. I want to refuse, but this friend group has been my core social circle for a decade. Losing them over this seems insane, but so does getting the tattoo. I don't know what to do.
