My fantasy football league's punishment for last place is getting out of hand.

The commissioner is trying to make our longtime 'last place has to host the draft party' rule into something way more intense. Now he wants the loser to pay for everyone's food and drinks, and I'm the one who came in last this past season.

The full story

I've been in the same fantasy football league with the same 10 guys for almost a decade. We're all good friends, it's a pretty low-stakes league ($50 buy-in), and the trash talk is usually the best part. From the beginning, we've had one simple rule for the person who finishes in last place: you have to host the draft party for the next season. It's not a huge deal, you clean up your apartment, maybe throw some chips in a bowl, and everyone else brings their own drinks. It's more of a ceremonial thing to get us all in the same room before the season kicks off. This year, our commissioner (one of my closer friends in the group) has decided we need to 'up the stakes'. He sent a message in the group chat saying the old punishment is boring and that from now on, the last-place finisher doesn't just host the draft, they have to *cater* it. He wants the loser to provide all the food (he's suggesting wings and pizza for 10 guys) and a full cooler of beer. His argument is that it'll make the regular season more competitive down the stretch. Well, I'm the guy who came in dead last this year, so this new rule conveniently applies to me first. I told him that's not what we agreed to. A punishment shouldn't be a moving target that changes after the season is already over. It feels like he's just trying to get a free meal out of me. Some of the other guys are backing him up, saying it'll be 'hilarious' and that I should just take the L. A few others are quiet. It's not about the money, it's the principle. Changing the rules retroactively is a bush-league move, and it's making me not even want to be in the league anymore.
