My ex-girlfriend wants me to pay for a vacation we booked when we were together.
By @willatbh · Dating
We broke up a month ago. The trip is in three weeks, and it's fully non-refundable. I paid for the flights, she paid for the hotel. Now she wants me to pay her back for her half of the hotel, even though neither of us are going.
The full story
We booked a trip to Mexico for this coming November. I bought the flights ($1200) and she put the non-refundable hotel on her credit card ($1400). We broke up about a month ago, and the trip is in three weeks. The airline gave me a credit for the flights, but the hotel is a complete loss. She's now asking me to send her $700 for 'my half' of the hotel room. Her logic is that we booked it as a couple, so we should split all non-refundable losses 50/50. I think that's unreasonable. We each took a risk, and my risk (the flights) just happened to work out better. I don't feel like I owe her anything.

What people are saying
@maybeitsme — Her asking for the $700 is a classic sunk cost fallacy.
@sighsame — I'd send her an invoice for the emotional damage of having to deal with this request.
@gusmaybe — You book it, you own it; that's just how credit cards work.
@movingon — do not send her a dime this is so funny
@gabeagain — Did she offer to give you half the flight credit?
