Dating someone who doesn't use a phone case is a bigger red flag than people admit.

I'm seeing this guy and his phone is a complete disaster. It's an expensive, new-ish model, but the screen is a spiderweb of cracks, the back is all scratched up. He just carries it around raw, no case, no screen protector, nothing. they says he 'likes the way it feels' but all I see is chaos.

I know it sounds superficial, but I can't shake the feeling that it says something about him as a person. We were at dinner the other night and he just slid it onto the table, and the sound of the cracked glass scraping on the wood made me physically cringe. I asked him why he doesn't just get a cheap case and he shrugged and said 'if it breaks, it breaks.' To me, it's not about the money. It's about a fundamental lack of care for your belongings and, by extension, a tolerance for unnecessary risk and disorder. If you can't be bothered to spend $20 to protect an $1000 device, what other areas of your life are you just letting fall apart? It signals a kind of short-sighted, 'live-in-the-moment' mentality that I find deeply unsettling in a potential long-term partner. I'm not saying he needs an Otterbox, but the complete absence of any protective measures just screams 'I don't think about consequences.' My friends say I'm overthinking it and that it's just a phone, but I'm starting to think it's a dealbreaker. You're either a phone case person or you're not, and I'm not sure I can be with a 'not'.
