My boyfriend has a new rule: if you use the last of something, you Venmo the house for it.

It started with him charging me for the last of the milk. This morning he sent me a $0.75 request for using the end of the toilet paper roll.

The full story

This started last week. I finished the gallon of milk making my coffee. I was going to the store after work, not a big deal. An hour later I get a Venmo request from him for $5.50 for "1 GA Milk." I told him he was joking. He wasn't. His whole deal is that we're both responsible for keeping the house stocked. If one person uses the last of something, they created a chore for the other person, so they should pay. I thought it was dumb, but fine. I paid it. But it's gotten out of hand. This morning I used the last square of toilet paper. The new pack was right under the sink. I put the new roll on myself. He comes in after me, must have seen the empty cardboard tube in the trash, and five minutes later my phone buzzes. A Venmo request for seventy-five cents. His math was that a 4-pack costs three bucks, so one roll is 75 cents. I told him he's being ridiculous. The new roll was RIGHT there. they said it's the principle. He had to 'perform the labor' of grabbing it. He's keeping a spreadsheet on the fridge. Yesterday he tried to charge me for two paper towels. I'm starting to think I should send him a bill for the electricity my phone uses to get his stupid notifications. He thinks this is about "total household accountability" but it just feels like he's making a point to be a pain in the ass. This is a red flag, right? It's not normal.
