My boyfriend fake-proposed to me at his friend's wedding and it was the most mortifying moment of my life.

By @karaagain · Relationships

He got down on one knee in the middle of the dance floor and the entire reception fell silent. Then he pulled out a Ring Pop and asked if I'd get him another drink. Now the bride and groom aren't speaking to us.

The full story

We were at his college buddy's wedding on Saturday. Beautiful ceremony, the reception was really fun, everyone was dancing and having a good time. A slow song comes on, and my boyfriend (31M) grabs my hand and dramatically pulls me toward the center of the floor. I'm (29F) just thinking it's a little cheesy but sweet, you know? And THEN. In front of God, the happy couple, and all 150 of their guests, he drops to one knee. The music gets quiet, people gasp. The bride's mom literally put her hand over her heart. I see the photographer start running towards us. For a split second, my brain just went completely blank. I couldn't even process it. He's looking up at me with this huge, stupid grin on his face, and he pulls out a cherry Ring Pop. they says, loud enough for everyone to hear, "Will you... go get me another beer?" A couple of his idiot friends howled with laughter. Everyone else just kind of... stared. The bride looked like she was going to cry. The DJ awkwardly blasted the music again, but the energy was just gone. He spent the rest of the night sulking because I was 'being dramatic' and 'can't take a joke.' I wanted to evaporate. He completely upstaged their moment for a lame prank and I was the prop. We haven't really talked since we got home.
