i went on a date with a guy who tried to rizz me up with a spotify playlist he made for the occasion.

it wasn't just a 'chill vibes' playlist. it was titled "first date with [my name]" and the first song was john legend's "all of me".

so i'm on this hinge date with a guy who's like, peak finance bro but seemed kinda self-aware about it. the date is fine, whatever, standard stuff. we go back to his place for one more drink and he gets this weirdly serious look and says "i have something for you." my brain is going a million miles an hour. is this a powerpoint presentation about our future compatibility? is he about to show me his crypto gains? what is happening. he opens spotify on his giant tv and there it is: a playlist titled "First Date with [My Name]" (he literally used my name, yes). initial thought is okay, that's either really creepy or kinda cute, no middle ground. then i see the tracklist. it opens with john legend. it goes into some ed sheeran. then adele's "make you feel my love." it was a wedding reception slow-dance playlist. for a first date. i just sat there in silence while he was vibing along to it, clearly thinking this was the peak of romance. i finally asked him if he does this for every girl he brings home and he said—dead serious—"i have a template, but i customize the title and add a few unique songs based on your profile's anthem." the sheer efficiency is honestly chilling. he thought this was the ultimate move, a guaranteed success, like he'd hacked dating. i'm pretty sure he got the idea from a tiktok dating coach or something. i had to make up an excuse about an early morning meeting and just... flee. he texted me the link to the playlist later like 'for when you're thinking of me.' i am still cringing.
