I was bracing for my neighbor to yell at me, but what happened next almost made me cry.

I've been learning to play the electric guitar and I know I'm not good. When my neighbor knocked on my door this morning, I was expecting a noise complaint.

The full story

The walls in my building are paper-thin. I got a guitar a month ago and have been trying to teach myself via the internet after work. I know I'm terrible, and I always feel super self-conscious about the noise, assuming everyone can hear every bad note. So when my next-door neighbor, this older guy who usually just gives a quiet nod in the hall, knocked on my door, my stomach dropped. I was rehearsing the apology in my head. I opened the door, ready for the worst. He just stood there for a second, and then handed me a worn-out-looking book. It was 'Beginner's Guitar Chords.' He just said, 'I had this lying around. You're getting the hang of it.' and gave me a little smile. I was so floored I just stammered 'thank you' and he went back to his apartment. It was the kindest, most unexpected thing.
