I think I’m done with my fantasy football league after 20 years.

We started this league on a clipboard in my basement back when we were all in our 20s. Now a bunch of the younger guys want to change the rules to be like these new-fangled online leagues and I just can't stand it.

I've been the commissioner of the same fantasy football league since the late 90s. We used to do our draft in person, eating pizza and wings, with a big board we'd update with stickers. We'd read the box scores in the Monday paper to figure out the points. It was a whole ritual, a real community thing that kept us all in touch after we started getting married and moving to different suburbs. Over the years, we moved it online, which was fine. It made scoring easier. But the spirit was always the same. Now, a new generation has joined—sons of the original members, a few younger cousins. And they want to completely change the fabric of the league. They're pushing for things like FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget) instead of our classic waiver wire priority. They want 'superflex' positions and decimal scoring. They're trying to add all these complicated scoring settings for things like 'first downs' and 'return yardage'. I tried to explain that the beauty of our league was its simplicity. It was about picking good players, not about who could spend the most time tinkering with a spreadsheet or exploiting some weird scoring loophole. Last week, they put it to a vote, and all the new guys voted together and pushed it through. My oldest friend, one of the original members, sided with them, saying we need to 'evolve'. I feel like the whole soul of the thing has been ripped out. It's not our league anymore. It's just another hyper-competitive, number-crunching league like the thousands of others online. I told them I was stepping down as commissioner and thinking about not even playing next year, and they acted like I was being a sore loser. It’s not about losing, it’s about what we’ve lost.
