I think I just called my friend’s brother a clueless poser at his own house party.

Some guy was mansplaining the World Cup game, so I made a super sarcastic comment about his brilliant insights. Turns out he's my friend's older brother who I'd never met. Whoops.
The full story
At my buddy's place for the World Cup match. This one guy is holding court, giving the most basic commentary like he's a professional analyst. 'They really need to score a goal here if they want to win,' just brilliant stuff. I leaned over to my other friend and said, way louder than I should have, 'This guy's a genius. Someone get him a contract.' The guy heard me. He just slowly turned and stared. My friend who is hosting the party just whispers 'That's my brother.' I have never wanted the floor to swallow me whole more than in that moment.

@austink — This is classic social anxiety making you catastrophize a totally normal awkward moment.
@reeselol — Couldn't you just apologize and say it was a bad joke?
@ashagain — I'd die but then I'd also make it my mission to call him 'coach' for the rest of his life.
@brynnkay — Cooked.
