My mom always makes way too much food and we always have leftovers for days. My girlfriend, who I've been dating for about six months, took this as an invitation to pack herself a full lunch for the next day before anyone else had even gotten seconds.

So my family does a big Sunday dinner pretty much every week. I finally invited my girlfriend to come and meet everyone. I thought it went really well. Everyone liked her, she was laughing at my dad's terrible jokes, it was great. My mom, as usual, made enough food to feed a small army. There was a huge roast, mashed potatoes, multiple sides, the works. After we all finished eating and were just sitting around the table talking, my girlfriend gets up, goes into the kitchen, and starts packing a container with leftovers. And I don't mean just a little bit. She packed a full meal-sized Tupperware with a bit of everything. She even asked my mom where the foil was so she could wrap up a couple of dinner rolls. My mom just kind of froze with a smile plastered on her face. My sister shot me a look from across the table. No one else in my family had even gone for seconds yet, and my girlfriend was already packing up food to take home like it was a catering gig she worked. Later, my mom mentioned that she found it a little... forward. they said it made her feel like a restaurant. I tried to defend her, saying she probably just didn't want food to go to waste and I'd told her we always have tons left. But my girlfriend doesn't see what the big deal is. they said if there are leftovers, they're up for grabs. I feel like it was presumptuous and a little rude, especially for a first meeting. It just felt tacky. But now I'm wondering if I'm making a big deal out of nothing.
