I don't think you should be able to 'dibs' a public parking spot.

By @tateyk · Petty or Nah

My girlfriend thinks it’s normal to have one person stand in an empty parking spot to save it while the other person drives the car around. I think if there’s no car, there’s no spot. It's not a restaurant reservation.

The full story

We went to a concert this weekend and the parking was a mess. She saw a spot and told me to drop her off so she could go stand in it and 'hold' it for me while I looped the block. I told her no way, that’s not how parking works. You can't just send a human placeholder. they says everyone does it and it's smart. I say it's rude and you just have to circle until you find one like a normal person. A guy in another car was about to pull into that same spot and saw her standing there and just looked confused and drove off. I was embarrassed. She was mad I wouldn't just take the spot she 'saved' for us. It’s a parking spot, not a piece of land you can claim by planting a flag. Now she's acting like I'm the crazy one. I just think you're entitled to a spot when your car gets there, not when your friend gets there.
