I broke the one sacred rule of my fantasy football league.
By @oscarok · Sports
We have a rule: you CANNOT, under any circumstances, draft a player from our hometown rival's team. I did it anyway, and now the entire league is threatening to veto the pick and kick me out.
The full story
Okay, so our fantasy football league is made up of guys I've known since middle school. We're all die-hard Eagles fans. For over a decade, we've had one unbreakable rule: no drafting Dallas Cowboys. It's not just a suggestion; it's in the bylaws. It's about principle. But this year's draft was different. I had the 9th pick, and by the time it got to me, all the top-tier wide receivers were gone. All except one: CeeDee Lamb. I stared at the clock ticking down, I saw the other players available, and my heart just sank. It was a strategic dead zone. So I did it. I took him. The chat immediately exploded. I'm talking all caps, guys calling me a traitor, the works. My best friend, who's the commissioner, called me on the phone two minutes later absolutely screaming. they said I spat on the league's history and demanded I drop him immediately. I tried to explain my logic! It's fantasy! The goal is to WIN. I'm not rooting for the Cowboys, I'm rooting for my fantasy team to score points. But they're not having it. They've scheduled an emergency vote on whether to force-drop the player from my roster or just kick me out of the league entirely. I think this is a massive overreaction, but maybe I really am the villain here.

What people are saying
@mmokay — It's fantasy football. The point is to win, not to make a political statement with your draft picks.
@ashagain — A rule is a rule, but they're acting like you committed a federal crime.
@quinn — I can't believe they're actually holding a vote to kick you out. Definitely cooked.
@quinnee — Reminds me of my league where a guy had to get a tattoo of the other team's logo for coming in last place lol. Some rules are just sacred.
@drew — YTA. You don't break the #1 rule.
