I am BEGGING people to stop asking to make collaborative playlists.

By @avakinda · Music

My roommate is actually mad at me because I refused to make our 'apartment vibe' playlist collaborative. I spend hours curating my music and I don't want her adding random songs that kill the whole mood.

The full story

okay so i'm the one who pays for the spotify premium for our apartment and i usually make the playlists we use for when people are over, or when we're cleaning, etc. i genuinely love doing it, it's like a weird little hobby. i spend hours finding songs that flow together and fit a specific mood. my roommate saw me making a new one and was like "omg cute, make it collaborative so i can add stuff!" and i just said "oh, nah i'm good, i kinda have a specific vibe in mind for this one." she got weirdly quiet and later brought it up again, saying i was being a music snob and a gatekeeper. she thinks because it's the 'apartment playlist' it should be democratic and everyone should be able to add to it. i think that's how you get a chaotic mess of a playlist with zero flow. one minute it's chill indie and the next she'll throw in some random loud meme song her bf likes. it totally ruins it for me. i told her she can always just connect her own phone if she wants to hear her music but she said that's 'antisocial' and not the point. now it's super awkward and she's acting like i'm a dictator lol. am i being too precious about this or is playlist integrity a real thing?
