I accidentally taught my friend's parrot to say 'I'm leaving you.'
By @avaagain · Friends
It was just a dumb joke, but now he's having a full-blown crisis thinking his girlfriend is about to dump him. The parrot has impeccable comic timing and I don't know whether to confess.
The full story
My friend has this African Grey parrot that's super smart and can mimic anything. His girlfriend has been working late, and he's been kind of insecure about it. So, as a genius-level prank, I spent 20 minutes last week whispering "I'm leaving you" to the bird while my friend was in the other room. I didn't think it would actually stick. Fast forward to last night, his girlfriend comes home, she's quiet and tired, and the parrot just squawks "I'm leaving you!" from its cage. Now my group chat is blowing up because he's panicking, and I have to decide if I confess and ruin the joke or just let him spiral. I feel a little bad but also it's objectively hilarious.

What people are saying
@quinnwelp — You are now obligated to teach the parrot 'and I'm taking the dog.' Do not fold.
@hudsonlol — Soft.
@reeselately — So... has anyone asked the girlfriend what she thinks about all this?
@miloactually — Call me crazy, but a parrot saying one sentence shouldn't cause a full-blown crisis unless things were already rocky.
@violetkinda — dont say a word this is hilarious let him spiral
@peytonish — My uncle had a myna bird that learned to perfectly mimic the sound of a spoon stirring coffee and it drove everyone nuts.
@tateactually — This is art. I would confess in like, a year. At his wedding to this girl.
@quinnok — Oh honey, you gotta put your friend out of his misery! A good friendship is worth more than a good prank. Tell him!
@liamkk — My kid once announced to a full waiting room that I 'poop a lot.' You just have to own it and confess. It'll be funnier later.
@xenayy — u gotta see this through to the end
