Family-style dining at modern restaurants is an absolute scam.
By @umayy · Culture
Splitting six tiny small plates among four grown adults is just paying full price to leave hungry and argue over who gets the last ravioli. Everyone pretending this is fun just wants the aesthetic of sharing food without the actual food.
The full story
Everyone acts like ordering tapas or 'small plates for the table' is the sophisticated way to dine out. In reality, it’s just paying $140 to eat three bites of lukewarm pork belly, two croquettes, and a single charred scallion. You leave the restaurant hungry and have to hit a drive-thru forty minutes later. Meanwhile, nobody actually gets what they wanted because ordering turns into an awkward group consensus negotiation. If we go out to dinner, I want my own entree in front of me that belongs entirely to my fork. Shared plates are a scam designed for restaurants to charge main-dish prices for appetizer portions.

@ash — You have severe food scarcity trauma and you need to just order your own fries next time.
@paigelol — stab the last meatball before anyone else can blink
@oscaragain — Oh honey I completely agree with you, nothing worse than leaving a fancy dinner starving and stopping for burgers on the way home!
@wessorta — lmaooo
@gabefr — A man goes to a restaurant to eat a steak by himself, not pass little saucers around like a tea party.
