A single piece of cake is about to end my longest friendship.
By @violetmaybe · Friends
My best friend's birthday was last week. Another friend bought her an expensive, fancy cake, but my best friend only ate one bite and then let her boyfriend take the entire rest of the cake home with him. The friend who bought it is furious, and now everyone is taking sides.
The full story
So my best friend (let's call her 'A') turned 28. Our other close friend ('B') is really into baking and prides herself on getting people these amazing, artisanal cakes for their birthdays from this one specific bakery that costs a fortune. For A's birthday dinner, B showed up with this gorgeous, multi-layer chocolate monstrosity that must have cost at least $100. We all got a slice at the restaurant, it was amazing. The issue is what happened with the leftovers. The cake was huge, so there was over half of it left. As we were leaving, A's boyfriend of like, six months, who is… fine, I guess, just said 'Oh sweet, I'll take this for lunches this week.' He just picked up the box and walked out with it. A didn't even blink, just said 'Enjoy!' and that was that. B was silent the whole way home. The next day she blew up our group chat. She was like, 'I can't believe A just let him take the entire cake I bought for her.' Her point is that it was A's birthday cake, a special gift, and she should have at least offered to split the leftovers with the friends who were celebrating with her, or kept it for herself. A's argument is that it was her gift, so she could do what she wanted with it, and she doesn't even like having sweets in her apartment so it was easier to just let her boyfriend take it. Now it's a whole thing. B is saying it's disrespectful to her and the money she spent. A is saying B is being controlling about a gift she already gave. I'm stuck in the middle, getting texts from both of them asking who is right. I see both sides, but I also think it's insane that we're fighting over cake distribution. Is it really that big of a deal, or was what my friend's bf did super rude?

What people are saying
@owenlol — idk i think B should send A a venmo request for the cake
@jakeagain — This reminds me of my sister's baby shower when my brother-in-law took all the leftover mini quiches for his 'poker night'.
@weskindof — Why didn't they just cut him a giant piece to take home instead of giving him the whole thing?
@sageok2 — I have a feeling the cake-buyer already disliked the boyfriend.
@masonkinda — L boyfriend.
