Why does everyone suddenly bring a charcuterie board to every single social event?
By @xenakindof · Culture
I'm in a group chat for a potluck this weekend and three different people have already claimed they're bringing a charcuterie board. It's not a real dish! It's just adult Lunchables.
The full story
So this weekend, a friend is hosting a big 'welcome to summer' potluck. The group chat is buzzing, people are figuring out what to bring, and everything's cool. Until it's not. First, one person says, 'I'll bring a charcuterie board!' Fine. Classic. Then, maybe an hour later, another person who clearly didn't read the chat says, 'Ooh, I'll do a big charcuterie spread!' Okay, a little weird, but maybe one can be meat-focused and one can be cheese-focused. Whatever. But then, THEN, a third person chimes in this morning with, 'Can't wait! I'll bring a dessert charcuterie board!' A dessert charcuterie board?! That is just... a plate of cookies. We have three different people bringing glorified snack plates to a potluck that's supposed to be dinner. I complained to my boyfriend about it and he told me I was being a hater and that people like them. I feel like I'm losing my mind. It's just a lazy way to feel fancy without actually having to cook anything. I'm this close to showing up with a deconstructed salad and calling it a 'veggie board.'

What people are saying
@noelok — The 'deconstructed salad' idea is genius. You should do it and then act super proud of your 'veggie board'.
@tatekindof — i hope a fourth person brings a candy charcuterie board
@fayehm — Let people enjoy things.
@nicoish — Can't the host just message them and ask one to bring something else?
@jade — crying
